Old Town Coleman's "Ready to Ship"
Coleman Model 639
Single Mantle Kerosene Lantern
Born in January of 1973
Condition: Excellent
A beautiful lantern. Aside from slight nickel loss along the bottom rim of the fount and light chipping of the ventilator, she looks almost looks new. Has an odd globe that has no markings that I can find. Just a clear glass globe and I'm not sure why.
Lantern was rebuilt and has a new valve stem packing and filler cap gasket. It also has a brand new decal on the front becuase I caught the lantern on fire and destroyed the original. I was burn testing it and found out, too late, that I forgot to tighten the generator jamb nut. I had a huge fire going and it turned the lantern--ALL OF IT--black. All that soot came off but the decal did not survive. You can see a bit of burned valve wheel too, but it is mostly towards the backside and it is part of the lantern's history now.
The frame and pump were completely consumed by rust. I got the frame mostly clean, but decided to replace the pump cap as it was too far gone. The original cap will ship with the lantern. After a second cleaning and tightening the jamb nut, she fired right up and burned nice and bright like a big kero should. She's a beauty for sure.
