Coleman Model 242A

Single Mantle Instant-Lite Lantern

undated

Condition: *Salvaged*

I grade this one as "salvaged" because that is exactly what happened. It had been sitting in my "parts lantern" area for a long time as someone dropped it long ago. When a lantern is dropped it usually ends up with a nice crease under the frame rest with the top half leaning over at some angle. That's why this one was in the parts area as it was pretty bad.

I had a gentleman send me some special tools to play with, and I was able to get about 98% of that crease out. If you look very closely at the fount, directly under the frame rest and under the tip cleaner, you can see a slight gap where the crease was. If you didn't know it, you'd probably never notice. With the frame rest off, you can feel it.

Aside from that, very nice 242A with NRV and the lockable pump plunger. I'd never used a NorthStar check valve before so I installed one on this lantern to see how it works. Of course it works perfectly and the original NRV will be shipped to the new owner.

The globe has not fewer than three mantle burns in it.

There is cracking and chipping of enamel on the ventilator but it is still solid with no impact damage.

Aside from the check valve, it also received a new valve stem packing and filler cap gasket. Generator was rebuilt and reused. Runs as it should.

Nickel has some spotting and scuffing and I see one dart-tip sized ding in the fount under the valve wheel. Shined up nicely and looks great.

Asking price is $95 plus shipping and insurance.
